Runaway Bay 2008 Student Rental Review

"A group of friends and I rented this house from North Beach Vacations for a last vacation before we all part for the next chapters of our lives. This house was more then amazing to us during the tip. The rooms were all clean and spacious, the kitchen provided pots, plans silverware, etc to cook meals in, the pool was beyond relaxing and the best part was the 2 minute walk to the beach. North Beach was extremely helpful, they even checked in during our stay to make sure everything was going good. Their service was impeccable. Thank you North Beach for all you did for our group, I can not wait to rent from this company again! "

"There was 13 people in our party. House was small but not a big deal as we didn’t spend much time in it. There is plenty of seating outback. When we first got there, there was bread and trash, including men’s underwear in the yard. Wet used towels by the outside showers. The hot tub was so cloudy you couldn’t see the seats. Was told someone would come out and pick up the yard and check the hot tub, no one did. It took 2 days for the fridge to get cold. They did send someone out to check it 3 times. Air conditioner went out. They did come quickly to fix it. However, it went out on Wednesday night and they sent contractors out to install new units on Thursday. It was fixed enough that they could have waited until we checked out on Friday morning. The lawn service came in the middle of the day to take care of the yard so we couldn’t use the pool. All of the doors are very squeaky. There is no trying to be quiet and let others sleep with the doors and creaky floors. Each time someone came to the house we had no parking. We had some sort of contractor at the house every day we were there. It interrupted our plans and activities. The kitchen sink has a very slow drain. I did not call about that because I was sick of people coming out to the house. The house is a very short walk to the beach and a 2 minute drive to the main road with everything you need. "

"The location is great, one block off the beach, but the house is in need of some serious TLC.

The floor tiles in the upstairs bathrooms are destroyed and extremely sharp due to them being cracked/broken (we had to lay towels along the whole bathroom floor so the kids would not cut their feet). Our second day there, water began flowing from the upstairs bathroom, through the ceiling electrical outlet and onto the middle of the floor in the downstairs bathroom. We had to put in an emergency call to the plumber. He recommended immediate replacement of floor tiles in the upstairs bathroom and to not walk on them.(this is what allowed water to flow into the downstairs bathroom from the shower). The staircase inside is missing screws, causing the staircase to rattle as you walk up/down them (simple fix, but extremely apparent/loud as you walk up/down staircase). When booking this house a North Beach Realty associate told me that a heater was being installed in the pool as we spoke on the phone, and it would be complete prior to our arrival, but that ended up being false. The door to the large bedroom upstairs will not close at all (bedroom 4, again an easy fix, but no privacy in that room). The day we checked in the pool/hot tub had not been cleaned (hot tub was slimy and full of sand, just needed cleaning, but should have been done before our arrival).

When checking out, there was no mention of the water leak by North Beach Realty staff. I brought it up and was told the owner is going to redo the whole bathroom, but that was it. No offer to compensate me in any way (refund one night maybe?? something..). Very disappointing.

If staying here I recommend getting confirmation the bathrooms upstairs were both redone (tiles in both are broken). Though I highlighted problems, the stay was still enjoyable. With some improvements, the house can be really nice, but in its current state, needs a lot of work."

"We were disapointed in arriving to a broken shelf in the refrigerator that was never replaced during our stay. Maintenance did assess that Monday, stating they may need to replace the entire fridge, but never returned.

We also lost hot water for an entire day due to a tripped breaker, which according to VRBO comments, happens frequently.

The property was not cleaned to satisfaction. There was dust on every light, blinds, and window sills, dead roaches in drawers and cabinets, and tons of flies in the house when we first arrived.

The benches on the decks were broken in places, where you did not feel safe being on the top floor.

The pool was cleaned once during the week, but should've been at least twice.

The downstairs bathroom smelled like cigarette smoke and mold, along with a number of cracks on the ceilings and walls.

The small living spaces and lack of outdoor furniture on the porches, made it difficult to gather, indoors or outdoors, unless sitting by the pool. Luckily we didn't have a rainy day!

You advertise as sleeping 17 people, but with the small room sizes and living areas, lack of seating, and lack of storage and floor space, there's no way 17 people could stay in that house comfortably for a whole week. We had 10 people and it was manageable but tight.

We will not stay there again, but can't beat the location! Need to invest some money in upkeep and upgrades."

"We enjoyed our stay. I do have a small complaint about the realty office. We had a broken chair (no big deal) but they said they would take it away, they never did. A big deal was the hot water stopped working inside and they said they would come out to fix it, but they never did. We had to take cold showers and wash dishes in cold water for the last 3 days of our stay. We were disappointed with the lack of customer service. "

"Our family of 16 gathered after 3 years in this rental and found it to be a great vacation home. It was near the beach, had a great covered outdoor area with two picnic tables, and the pool and hot tub were great perks. The rental company was super accommodating in addressing any concerns or needs we had and kudos to Dylan for going above and beyond in following up on any of our requests."

"The check-in was a little cumbersome, but the house rental was worth it! Great outdoor spaces at this house, from the porch and deck area to the pool itself."

"6 guys for golf trip. Accommodations adequate. Hot water heater circuit breaker tripped no hot water one night, shower water pressure low. Pool area nice. Hot tub broken for our trip. For the price, I’d say pass."

"I Enjoyed this property very much! (December) the Hot tub was great for the teens, backyard was great for my doggo, Easy to get to the beach .!!!!!
The spiral staircase though.....not easy on doggo or older guests, but there is regular stairs to the top floor from the outside. Maintenance crew was very responsive to questions and concerns (great help getting the hot tub going, ive never had one) As several properties were in the same neighborhood I got to check them out. I liked the neighborhood. Ill use North Beach Reality again!!

"The backyard was large, fenced in with a great deck, perfect for our dogs and family gatherings! The house was very close to the beach. The kitchen had very few necessary items (cups, pasta strainer, etc) and the cabinets were very high. Overall, we had a great vacation and house worked well for us."

"We chose Runaway Bay 2008 for our first family trip to the Myrtle Beach area. We were two families with 6 adults and 2 toddlers (both of which was first trip ever to any beach). We chose this property primarily because of the back yard area and proximity to beach (Crescent Beach). And in both of these areas the property did not disappoint! It’s even better than the pictures thanks to the large hot tub next to the pool. That hot tub was amazing! As was the pool. Clean and certainly large enough for our group. Perfect appropriate temperatures for both. The pool was extremely refreshing in late afternoon after returning from beach and even in the evening. The house has fabulous wrap around decks on both levels and a large front porch. There were even outdoor showers (which to be honest could use some maintenance) and laundry area. We spent almost all our time outside - for good reason. The kids loved it, the adults loved it even more!

The inside was nice enough for a beach rental, full kitchen, smallish dining/living room areas, 6 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. Plenty of room for our group. As I mentioned, we spent almost all our time outside, so the small room sizes inside were not really a concern for us.

It was maybe 3 minute walk to Crescent Beach, which we also loved. Not a crazy crowded beach, clean, great water temperature although waves can be strong. It was perfect for what we wanted.

The managers at North Beach Realty were also fabulous all throughout from booking to post-trip (we accidentally left behind something and they found it and sent to us).

In this COVID environment we were looking for a larger private property all to ourselves with plenty of back yard options. We avoided crowded areas and activities in Myrtle Beach and spent 95% of our time in the back yard and beach. Highly recommend if you looking for something similar."

"When we first arrived we were very disappointed because there was left over trash from the previous renters. There was fruit, glass, empty beer cans, underwear, and a full charcoal bucket. After a call to North Beach they sent someone right over, but we still had to clean it to our standards inside. Then we had numerous issues, washer broke and wasn't working for days, ice maker didn't work well, the face of a drawer fell off, the hot tub didn't clear up until we were into our second week. The AC was set at 68 when we got there but it never got very cold, we had to get fans. The toliet broke on the last day, There is green slime from dripping water all over the wood in locations. The rooms are very small and only two outlets in most rooms. It was built in 1950 and seems like it.
On a positive note the location is wonderful, plenty of parking and the backyard was the best."

"We enjoyed our time in this house very much. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our families. Everything was in good condition. Our only "problem" was that the common living spaces were smaller than they appeared in the photos, not really a ding against the house... We should have been more diligent in looking at the pictures. Still had a wonderful time! "

"Our family enjoyed our Winter stay at Runaway Bay!! Wonderful location, plenty of space to accommodate all ages that attended the family trip. The family suggested that we do a summer stay in the same house. The property had everything we needed. If I change anything it would be the heating system, it never got warm in the house unless we were cooking and that was temporary heat. Although we were cold, we made the best out of it!! "

"We rented this home because it was pet friendly (fence was a must), close to the beach, and fit all of our guests! We had a small beach wedding with immediate family members and we were able to stay together! The amount of seating on the property is awesome and the outdoor showers were a plus! The location was perfect with plenty of nearby stores and a surf shop right down the street. I would definitely stay here again if we return with a large group! "

"This place fit our need to a tee. We had plenty of room for all of us. Pool area was nice and outdoor showers really came in handy. Only negative was there were tons of flies in the house when we showed up and hardly usable lighting near the outside pool area for when its dark."

"This unit is a pretty easy walk to the beach. If you don't feel like going to the beach then the backyard is fantastic. Plenty of space, a nice pool and a fence to offer some seclusion. Overall a great property with plenty of beds and showers."

"The rental was better than I expected. It had everything it claimed to have and more. we had an issue with the air condition unit, but they had someone out to fix it quickly. And the pool was awesome. Over all it was a great stay."

"This is a really nice house. There was 17 of us from ages 3-62 and everybody loved it! The private pool/backyard was great. It was nice to be able to go to the pool whenever we wanted and not worry about it being crowed. The beach was close and there was a public walkway that we could use that was close to the house also. We will definitely be back next year :)"

"We stayed in this lovely beach house in July 2015. We had a great time! The outside pool made the experience greater. Lots of room for the whole family. Close to the beach. The staff was terrific and the property was very clean.

"This was a great location close to the beach and many fun activities! We were the first group to stay in this newly renovated house, so there were a few minor issues. However, maintenance was out quickly and took care of all the issues! Stairs inside the house a bit steep, but no worries there were outside steps that everyone felt comfortable using. North Beach Realty is a great company...this was our second year using them and we will definitely use them again! "
